Inlays/Onlays

If your teeth have large fillings or have been damaged and are in need of repair but you would prefer a more conservative choice to a crown or a composite filling, you may consider an inlay restoration. Even though inlays are durable and will protect and restore the beauty of your smile, they are not permanent and may eventually require repair or replacement.
Generally, inlays/onlays restoration may be completed in two visits to our Cosmetic Dentist – Dr. Hawary of California Smile Design. To begin, highly precise impressions, or molds, are taken in order to create your custom inlay/onlay. Impressions for a temporary inlay will also be taken which you will wear for about two weeks until your custom dental restoration is manufactured in a dental laboratory. Then, once your tooth has been numbed, all tooth decay and old filling substances will be removed, and your tooth will be cleaned and shaped to receive the inlay restoration. Once your tooth is prepared for the inlay, your Chicago Cosmetic dentist will attach your temporary inlay on your tooth, checking for proper fit.
Technology:
Typically no advanced technology is necessary to prepare and place an inlay.
During the second appointment, your Chicago cosmetic dentist will remove the temporary inlay, clean the tooth, and precisely cement the completed custom inlay restoration, ensuring a natural appearance, comfortable fit, and a healthy bite. Finally, you will receive information regarding the maintenance of your dental crown or cap, practices that promote good oral hygiene, and suggested timelines for regular visits to your Chicago cosmetic dentist.
Am I a Candidate:
If you have a cavity that extends beyond or over the cusp of your tooth, or if you have a failing metal amalgam or crown that covers one or more cusp(s) of your tooth, you are a candidate for an onlay.
