Dentists have several options for replacing missing teeth - not all options apply to every patient though. A dental implant for replacing a single tooth is poised of three parts. The first part is the implant screw [Pre-implant Prosthetics] that is surgically inserted into your jawbone. The abutment [Implant placement] is the second portion of the dental implant. Also composed of titanium, it latches onto the implant screw and provides a surface for the artificial tooth to be placed on. The final portion is the visible crown [Prosthetics Phase] or artificial tooth. Made of porcelain, the tooth appears natural and functions like a normal tooth.
